The new UK coalition government has announced in its "Plan for government" that it will seek to introduce a new HGV toll charging system which will address the lack of fairness for UK hauliers. UK transport associations have been lobbying hard for the introduction of the charge which will also include foreign vehicles which until now have been able to circulate free of charge on British roads. The Coalition hopes to carry out committee led investigations into this proposal and will seek to introduce the new legislation during this parliament.
